Animal prints have long been a favorite for bedroom themes and exotic bedding. Once upon a time sheets and pillow cases, comforters and bedspreads could be found only in the natural colors of the animals it represented. However, today animal prints come in a variety of colors that allow us to impose a bit of the wild into our bedrooms while maintaining our favorite color schemes.
Once again we emphasize that generally three basic colors are best for any room scheme. It prohibits creating an environment that is too busy or one that strays from the original objective. Today's animal prints, such as a zebra pattern, are no longer confined to the natural colors of black and white. Perhaps a little fantasy is good for all of us. Imagine your zebra print in pink and black or any other color combination. After all, it is the pattern that relays the animal these days, not the colors.
Of course, we will begin the discussion of zebra prints with the basic black and white pattern. This is still the most popular and perhaps the most versatile. (Click on pictures for availability and pricing.)
Black and white is a very popular choice in bedding today. It is modern. It is basic. It allows for a bright or a subtle accent color. If one tires of one accent color, just change a few accessories and you have a completely different look.
For those who do not want the basic black and white, there are many other colors available.
Perhaps for the more exotic of us the purple and black pattern is favorable. Teenagers are particularly fond of the more vibrant colors of animal prints.
One word of caution when purchasing the more exotic colors of the print, purchase the bedding before painting the room or purchasing additional accent pieces or accessories. Often the exact colors are hard to match, especially from memory. With shades of blues and greens in particular often we think we saw one shade when in fact we saw another.
Baby Bedding in a Zebra Print
And, let's not forget the youngest members of the family. Today crib bedding and toddler bedding is available in these exotic prints as well. Even baby gets into the safari mode with exotic zebra prints for the crib.
What new parent would not love this crib set for the youngest adventurer?
When using the animal print as a theme in the nursery, often the new parents will select a lighter shade of the accent color --- raspberry, in the example above --- for the walls and for baby accessories. The raspberry color is strong enough not to become overwhelmed by the black and white zebra print, yet versatile enough to present a pastel shade for the walls.
As demonstrated with the illustrations above, zebra print can be easily adapted to almost any bedroom decor. Depending on the color selection, the animal print can set a very modern theme or with the introduction of live plants into the bedroom decor one can feel the intensity of the jungle.
For teens, animal prints have been and continue to be a favorite choice. And, of course, we can see just how inviting and elegant it can be for the nursery.
Zebra print, in particular, has become one of the hottest patterns of the year with as many color variations as one can imagine. When selecting a print such as the zebra pattern for your bedding, you are encouraged to remember:
- With a duo-tone bedding set, select a third color to carry out the theme.
- Purchase the zebra sheets, pillow cases, comforters, etc. as a bedding ensemble or a bed in a bag to guarantee the patterns and colors are consistent.
- Purchase separate solid colored bedding that will complement the ensemble. Using all the ensemble pieces together can become overpowering, especially in a room that is small.
- If painting the walls to match any of the colors in the bedding, take a sheet or pillow case to the paint store for a good match to the paints.
Above all, remember that purchasing a bedding ensemble does not complete a bedroom theme or decor. The correct accent pieces can be the small things that bring the decor together.
