When it is time to prepare the nursery parents are not only concerned about the theme for the nursery. The first concern is for the safety of the newest family member.
Crib mattresses must be 51 5/8" long and 27 1/4" wide for the safety of the newborn. The measurements are the standard of the industry. While that is perhaps the most important criterium for the crib mattress, there are other criteria that many new parents consider.
According to the independent company that rates eco-friendly products, GREENGUARD, Naturepedric crib mattresses have earned the seal of approval. This is important since babies spend approximately 70% of their first few months in the crib.
Naturepedic crib mattresses are made of organic cotton, with a premium organic waterproof cotton cover. All Naturepedic crib mattresses are hypoallergenic and are fire resistant. Cotton does not burst into flames as does polyurethene foam.

Although a little more expensive, Naturepedic has created a seamless crib mattress that meets all the standards of the traditional design. Without the seam around the edge there is less opportunity for dust mites as there is no entry point. Water and fluids are unable to penetrate the seamless mattress making it even more hygenic.

The crib mattress is one of the primary purchases for the nursery. A well constructed crib can be purchased, borrowed or passed from one family member to another as long as it meets safety specifications. However, the crib mattress is something that should be used only by one baby. It is imperative for a healthy baby to sleep on a hygenic mattress that meets all safety standards.
There are plenty of crib mattresses on the market. The prices vary as much as the construction. It is most important to consider the baby's health and well-being before deciding on the color scheme or the theme for the nursery.
