There has always been the question of cottage style versus shabby chic. The difference between the two styles is so minimal that it would be hard to distinguish cottage style bedding from shabby chic bedding unless we look at the environment or the surrounding decor.
In short cottage style decor consists of two or three colors, usually two predominant colors and a neutral tone. But, the real distinction is that cottage style decor consists of a variety of patterns and textures that carry through the two or three colors. Shabby chic bedding is pretty much the same, but the decor can distinguished by the lack of mixed patterns.
The bedding shown is labeled either as cottage style bedding or shabby chic bedding with little or no distinction between the two.
It must be pointed out that the backgrounds or the room settings shown in the pictures above are very subtle and without the busy patterns that would be present in a cottage style setting. To get the full benefit of what one should expect from a cottage style room, there is a very informative article on Guide to Home Furniture (and Furnishings) called "Cottage Style is More than Shabby Chic". There is a complete description of what to expect in a cottage style environment. After seeing the examples given in the article it will be much easier to visualize the cottage style bedding above in a cottage setting.
