Blue is a Comforting Color for Bedding

in Blue, Comforters

Blue Comforter SetBlue is a very peaceful color and makes a bedroom feel comfortable and cozy.  Choosing blue as a part of the bedroom color scheme is always a good choice.

As seen in the picture to the left the bedding --- the comforter and the pillow shams --- are in denim blue and smoke blue.  The fabric is microfiber.  Of course, microfiber is an excellent texture especially for winter months.

The colors demonstrate the flexibility of using a primary color and shades of the color as the central focus of the decor.  However, when choosing blue as a color to be used in the bedroom there are several things to consider:

  • If the walls are painted blue, do not try to match blue bedding.  Choose a complementary shade of blue.  For whatever the reason, blue is one of the hardest colors to match.  If you should decide to try to match blues take a sample with you and look at the colors --- the sample you have and the color you are matching --- in a variety of lights.  Blues can be very tricky.  What looks good in one light may actually clash when you get it home.
  • If your walls are a lighter blue, select navy blue or midnight blue as a bedding selection.   Putting lighter shades of blue together can become a nightmare.  Again, our memories of blue can be tricky.  We may remember a baby blue from one environment that actually looks a little green when we get it home.
  • If your walls are not blue, select a darker blue bedding that is neutral and a lighter blue that is complementary.

A bedroom decor that consists of blue colors can be so very relaxing when it is time for bed.  However, among the colors that will keep you awake at night, shades of blue that clash will top the list.
