When selecting bedding for any bedroom decor a bed skirt or a dust ruffle can add the finishing touch. Selecting the right bedskirt or the right dust ruffle can complete the bedroom. Selecting one that doesn’t fit the bed properly can absolutely destroy the look of the entire room. Or, selecting one when the other would better suit the decor can be equally distracting in the overall appearance of a room.
Often the terms “bed skirt” and “dusk ruffle” are used interchangeably. For the purpose of this article and other related articles on this site, there will be a distinction made between the two. Bedskirt will refer to a covering that fits over the box spring and hangs straight to the floor. A dusk ruffle will refer to a covering that fits over the box spring and is fuller than a bed skirt, ruffled or gathered as it hangs to the floor.
It is common for dust ruffles to be referred to as bed skirts, especially in advertising. However, seldom is a bed skirt referred to as a dust ruffle. Perhaps, the general distinction is that a dust ruffle can be a bed skirt but without the ruffle effect a bed skirt does fit the description of a dust ruffle.
